Athletics chief Coe wants action over Russian doping allegations

Date:

International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) chief Sebastian Coe on Monday said he had asked for approval from the IAAF council to consider taking sanctions against the Russian Athletics Federation over doping violations.

The sanctions could include provisional and full suspension and the removal of Russian athletes from future IAAF events, Coe said in a statement.

Commenting on a report published Monday by world anti-doping agency WADA, Coe said: “The information in WADA’s Independent Commissions Report is alarming. We need time to properly digest and understand the detailed findings included in the report.

“However, I have urged the Council to start the process of considering sanctions against ARAF.”
