No positive dope tests detected at Rugby World Cup

Date:

There were no positive drug tests detected before or during the 2015 World Cup in England, the sport’s global governing body, World Rugby, announced on Tuesday.

200 tests were carried out during the September 18-October 31 tournament by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), with 268 out-of-competition samples collected as well.

The testing programme included a mix of both urine and blood samples, while the 2015 World Cup was the first to feature the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) programme following its introduction by World Rugby in 2013.

“While there were no adverse findings before, or during, Rugby World Cup 2015 that doesn’t mean we can become complacent as to the risks. That is why we have increased our budget in this important area and committed to storing samples for potential further analysis,” said World Rugby chairman Bernard Lapasset.
