Bollywood’s battle of the year has happened with ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ releasing all over last week. While Rohit Shetty’s ‘Dilwale’ clearly shows an edge over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’, collections of both films have suffered owing to the clash just as the trade had feared.
In India, SRK-starrer ‘Dilwale’ raked in 75.18 crore (till Monday afternoon) and Ranveer-starrer ‘Bajirao Mastani’ minted 57.02 crore.

Globally ‘Dilwale’ collected Rs 121 crore in its opening weekend, with $8.5 million (approximately Rs 56 crore) coming from the overseas market. For ‘Bajirao Mastani’ the overseas collection was $4.5 million (Rs 29.85 crore) taking the total figure to Rs 86.87 crore globally.
“I think we’re on track so far and we expect the film to grow tomorrow (Tuesday) onwards when the holiday season begins,” said Gaurav Verma, chief revenue officer, Red Chillies Entertainment, adding, “We know that the film will entertain audiences across all age groups.”
‘Bajirao Mastani’ released in 3,050 screens in India, while ‘Dilwale’ made its way into as many as 2,700 screens. As both films are made over a budget of Rs 100 crore, the coming days would be crucial for them in theatres.
While ‘Dilwale’ is an out-and-out entertainer, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is a historical romantic saga.
