Secretary MCI Reena Nayyar said the RFID registrationcards will be issued to all registered medical practitionersin the country. "This will enable registered doctors to have a documentedproof of their registration at all times and facilitateworking of medical practitioners across all the country under’One Country One Registration’. "Further, the availability of information on real timebasis regarding pendency of penal proceedings against themedical practitioners on the website will be available whichshall further enhance the strict enforcement of ethical codeof conduct," she said. Elaborating about the process, officials said there arearound 9.5 lakh doctors in the country. But many of them mighthave died, some might have left the country or some may befakes. After registration, all their details will be availableonline and all the fake doctors will be eliminated. Under the project, the existing records of MCI shall becompletely digitised and the Indian Medical Register shall bemade a live register. Ajay Kumar, Chairman, Administration and GrievanceCommittee, MCI said the project was envisaged in 2009 and itwill bring the functioning of MCI to global standardscomparable to any other country in the developed world.
