Krishnapatnam Port, Maersk launch mainline service for China

Krishnapatnam (AP), Aug 29 (PTI) Krishnapatnam Porttoday said it has launched a weekly mainline service, to beoperated by Maersk Line in partnership with Hanjin Shipping ofKorea, from China to Krishnapatnam Port. The facility will provide the fastest and mostcompetitive service to the exporters and importers of AndhraPradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Northern Tamil Nadu to theports of China, Far East Asia and South East Asia, a pressrelease stated. The current transit time for bulk cargo likefurniture, office and hotel interiors which take 40-45 days toreach the consignee will be straightway halved with the launchof the new service through Krishnapatnam Port ContainerTerminal, it said. The weekly mainline service was inaugurated by FranckDedenis, MD, Maersk Line, along with Anil Yendluri, Directorand CEO, Krishnapatnam Port. Yendluri said Andhra Pradesh, Bengaluru and Hyderabadattract a huge volume of container cargo from China and thatKrishnapatnam Port, owing to its strategic location and beinga new age port, is an ideal gateway for such shipments. "Suppliers in China are keen to use our port as agateway for their current shipments as it is well poised toprovide a very compelling and cost efficient route for thetraders based on the Southern periphery of the country,"Yendluri said. The service has been commenced in response to a strongrepresentation from exporters of cotton, minerals, chilies,granite etc. to eastern destinations, with the service callsdirected at the ports of Shanghai, Qingdao, Nansha, Xingagang,Busan and Singapore, according to the release.
