Spinal surgeries ‘live streamed’ to doctors attending CME prog

Kozhikode, Aug 29 (PTI): In a unique approach, two spinalsurgeries had been ‘live streamed’ to doctors attending anOrthopaedic Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on DiscDiseases and for those gathered medical delegates in the AsterMIMS auditorium. The CME,organised by Aster MIMS’ Orthopaedics department,Calicut Orthopaedic Society and Kerala OrthopaedicAssociation, was inaugurated yesterday by Dr Tony Kavalakkat,President of Calicut Orthopaedic Society, an Aster MIMSrelease said today. "Two cases – a Minimally Invasive Lumbar Discectomyand a Lumbar Canal Stenosis – were showcased live to thedoctors attending the CME allowing them to see the surgicalapproach and methods followed and permitting the audience todiscuss about the case while it was going on", the releasequoted Dr Suresh Pillai, Senior Consultant Spine Surgeon andOrganising Secretary of the CME who performed the surgeries. Besides Dr Suresh Pillai, faculty for the CME included topsurgeons and specialists from around the country, including DrSurya Prakash Rao, Senior Consultant Spine Surgeon, Medcitiand Maxcure Hospital, Hyderabad and Dr Shailesh Hadgaonkar,Consultant Spine Surgeon from Sancheti Hospital, Pune. "This CME program gave the delegates a memorableopportunity to witness live spinal surgeries.
