BHU employee arrested for sodomising student

Varanasi, Aug 31 (PTI) An employee of the Banaras HinduUniversity was today arrested for allegedly sodomising astudent of the varsity, though the police suspect it to be afallout of money matters between the two. The BHU student had registered a case at Lanka policestation on August 16 against the lab assistant and fiveunidentified persons under section 377 of IPC alleging thatthey had sodomised him on the night of August 13, police said. The student alleged that the assaulters intoxicated himand sexually assaulted him while he was returning to his lodgein Seer Goverdhan. They later threw him at an isolated placein unconscious state, they added. The accused has been arrested and initial probe suggeststhat it is a case of money dispute between the two, SSP AkashKulhary said. Medical examination was conducted on the victim twice butboth the reports revealed that the student was not assaultedsexually, Sanjeev Mishra, SHO, Lanka police station said. However, on interrogation it was found that the studentand lab assistant were allegedly in a ‘relationship’, Kulharysaid. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor GC Tripathi yesterday suspendedthe erring employee and constituted a fact-finding committeeafter some students along with members of NSUI staged protestsdemanding action against the accused.
