Saumendra Singh was arrested despite the authoritieshaving not recovered any bottle from his house while fourempty bottles were found from adjacent plot of Singh’s house,Modi claimed. He alleged that Excise Department Superintendent Ram BabuPrasad, four sub-inspectors, including Deepak Kumar Singh, whohad conducted the raid, and two homeguard jawans were quizzedby Deep Nagar police for 10 hours to know from where and howthey had received the information about liquor kept in JD(U)leader’s house. Police pressurised Sub-Inspector Deepak Singh to givea written statement that he was bribed to conduct raids atSen’s house, the former deputy chief minister said. He wondered why police wanted to know the name of theinformer from the Excise department officials whereas, as perthe Excise Act, the name of the informer has to be withheld asno one would come forward to share any information due to thefear of being arrested. If there was any connivance of Excise department officialsin planting liquor bottles in JD(U) leader’s house then whynot any Excise official was apprehended so far, he asked. PTIAR SUSKIS
