Coldplay confirms India tour, debut gig in November

Mumbai, Sep 10 (PTI) The long-awaited Coldplay concert isfinally happening here on November 19. It was confirmed on the official website of GlobalCitizen, an international social action platform. The show will be part of the Global Citizen Festival, forwhich the band’s frontman Chris Martin is the creativedirector. The concert is happening on World Toilet Day to drawattention towards sanitation problems in the country. Contrary to reports, the tickets will not cost Rs 25,000to Rs 5 lakh. The festival has an established format ofproviding tickets for free to fans who sign up to become aGlobal Citizen and participate in their campaign to supportcauses like education, equality and sanitation. "We are so excited to be announcing that on World ToiletDay, November 19th, we are hosting the first-ever GlobalCitizen Festival in India, with an incredible lineup ofinternational and Indian headliners including Coldplay!" theaction group posted on its website. "Starting Monday, tickets to the Global Citizen Festivalin India can be earned through the new platform by signing upto become a Global Citizen and completing the festival’s actioncampaigns at GlobalCitizen.IN," they said. The line-up for other artistes is expected to be out onSeptember 12, when the campaign is scheduled to kick off. The band had made headlines ever since they were spottedshooting for the video of their track "Hymn for the Weekend"from seventh studio album, ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ which wasreleased in December last year. The track’s video, featuring Beyonce and Sonam Kapoor, wasreleased in January this year. The pictures of the shoot had surfaced on social media andwas followed by Martin’s impromptu performance at Summer HouseCafe. He also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visithere. Global Citizen India, in its first year, will offer awide cross-section of content and actions focused on creatingmeaningful impacts in the areas of education, equality, andclean water and sanitation. Convened in 2012, the festival is a star-studded benefitconcert held annually in New York. This year’s edition in theAmerican city will feature international music celebrities likeKendrick Lamar, Beyonce, metal legends Metallica, Alicia Keysand Rihanna among others. PTI ASV TRSBK
