Pune: In a significant development following the tragic incident involving the 17-year-old allegedly driving a Porsche that fatally struck two IT professionals in Pune, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of the accused teenager, was taken into custody by the Pune Police Crime Branch unit on Saturday.
The tragic incident unfolded near Kalyani Nagar in Pune, claiming the lives of two IT professionals identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Their lives were cut short when a Porsche struck their motorcycle. The victims succumbed to their injuries instantly at the scene of the accident.

- The commissioner of Pune city police, Amitesh Kumar said that the grandfather of the accused was arrested. A separate FIR has been registered against him under IPC sections 365 and 368.
- In addition to Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of the accused, his son Vishal Agarwal has also been implicated in the same FIR.
- This action comes in response to a complaint lodged by the family’s driver, Gangadhar. Pune Police Commissioner stated that Vishal Agarwal faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 342, 365, 368, 506, and 34.
- Driver Gangadhar filed a complaint with the police, alleging that he was forcibly taken to Surendra Agarwal’s residence on the night of May 19 while he was leaving Yerawada Police Station.
- Surendra and his son Vishal allegedly threatened Gangadhar, snatched his phone and forcibly kept him confined in their bungalow in an attempt to force him to take responsibility for the crime instead of his minor grandson.
- Earlier on Thursday, the Pune City Police questioned the 17-year-old’s grandfather in connection with the incident that took place early on Sunday morning in Pune’s Kayani Nagar.
- The accused teenager was reportedly driving a luxury car in an inebriated condition and hit two motorcycle borne IT professionals identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.
- The accused has been detained at an observation home on the order of the Juvenile Justice Board. He was earlier granted bail in the case but later sent to the observation home for 14 days till June 5.
- Earlier, the Pune Police Commissioner stated that efforts were underway to try the minor accused as an adult. Additionally, he confirmed that there had been an attempt to implicate the hired driver of the Porsche in the aftermath of the accident. The Commissioner emphasized that the police are thoroughly investigating the driver’s statement in connection with the incident.
