Army Commander visits border, asks troops to remain alert

Jammu, Sep 20 (PTI) Amid heightened tension between Indiaand Pakistan, Western Army Commander Lt Gen Surinder Singhtoday visited border areas of Jammu region and asked troops toensure high degree of alertness and operational preparedness. During the visit, he took stock of the security apparatusin the sensitive areas and complimented the forces insuccessfully maintaining a high state of vigil, a defencespokesman said here. The Army Commander reviewed the deployment in the entireregion and appreciated efforts being made by all the securityagencies to enhance the levels of preparedness, he said. Gen Singh, who took over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Command only three days back, emphasized onthe need for ensuring high degree of alertness and operationalpreparedness, the spokesman said. He also stressed upon the need to coordinate theintelligence network of all agencies in the region so thatprompt actions can be undertaken to defeat the nefariousdesigns of adversary.
