Curfew remains in force in some parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, Sep 21 (PTI) Curfew was today in force in onlythree police station areas of Srinagar city in Kashmir, as thecurbs were lifted from other parts following improvement inthe situation. However, normal life remained affected in the Valley forthe 75th straight day. A police official said curfew continued in Nowhatta, M RGunj and Khanyar police station areas of the summer capitaltoday. The authorities had yesterday lifted curfew across Kashmirexcept from six police station areas of the city. This morning, the curbs from three areas were lifted. The official, however, said restrictions on the assemblyof people under section 144 CrPC continued to remain in forcein the Valley. Meanwhile, normal life continued to remain disturbed inKashmir for the 75th consecutive day due to restrictions andseparatist sponsored strike. The separatists, who are spearheading the currentagitation in the Valley, have extended the protest programmetill September 22. They did not announce any period of relaxation in thestrike for the week. Shops, business establishments and petrol pumps continuedto remain shut in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley, whilepublic transport was off the roads. Schools, colleges and other educational institutions alsocontinued to remain shut. Mobile internet services also remained suspended, whilethe outgoing calls on prepaid numbers continued to remainbarred across the Valley. As many as 81 people, including two cops, have been killedin the unrest that broke out a day after Hizbul Mujahideencommander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with securityforces in South Kashmir on July 8.
