Lawyer held for killing wife over dowry

Date:

Nagpur: A 31-year-old city lawyer has been arrested along with his mother and brother on charges of poisoning his wife to death for dowry, police said on Friday.

The victim Sonali Amol Borkar (26) was admitted for suspected poisoning two days back in a private nursing home here, where she passed away. Her father Shankarrao Tipale then lodged a complaint with Lakadganj Police that his daughter was killed by her in-laws allegedly for not bringing dowry.

Acting on the complaint, Lakadganj Police during their preliminary investigation found that Sonali was first hit by a hard object on her head allegedly by husband Amol Borkar and later forcefully administered some poisonous substance.

Sonali was allegedly being harassed by Amol and his family over dowry demands, her father alleged.

Police on Thursday arrested Amol, his younger brother Radheshyam (29) and mother Rekhabai Borkar (55) in connection with the alleged dowry death and registered offences against them under section 498, 328, 304 (A) and 34 of IPC.

The trio was produced before a local court which remanded them to police custody till September 15.
