Nine IG-rank IPS officers appointed in BSF

Date:

New Delhi: Nine IPS officers have been appointed as Inspectors General (IsG) in one go in the country’s largest border guarding force BSF by the government.

The Home Ministry on Monday issued orders in this regard and while six of these Indian Police Service officers are being brought from various states, three are being transferred from other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to the paramilitary.

Officials attributed the bulk first-ever posting of IG- rank officers in the Border Security Force to the long pending vacancies in this category.

As per data, as on October 1, the BSF had 10 vacancies against 22 sanctioned posts of IG in its establishment.

Similarly, under the same order, five IsG have been appointed in the Central Reserve Police Force.

“After the cadre restructuring of these two large forces being cleared recently, the government has issued orders for appointing these big numbers of IsG in one go. No doubt, this will enhance work efficiency of the two agenices vital for country’s internal security tasks and border guarding (BSF),” a senior official said.

He added similar orders will soon be issued for appointment of cadre officers of these two forces in the ranks of IG and Deputy IG as mandated under cadre restructuring rules.

While the CRPF is the mainstay for anti-Naxal operations and rendering law and order duties in the country, the BSF is tasked to secure Indian borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
