Gutierrez leads line for Colombia opener

Date:

Teofilo Gutierrez will lead the forward line for Colombia in their World Cup Group C opener against Greece in Belo Horizonte on Saturday and try and fill the sizeable gap left by the injured Radamel Falcao.

Gutierrez, who plays for Argentinian side River Plate, will be looking to add to his total of 12 goals in 30 games and depend on Cagliari winger Victor Ibardo and Monaco star James Rodriguez to provide him with opportunities to hurt the Greeks.

Their defence will be marshalled by 38-year-old veteran skipper Mario Yepes.

Greece for their part have not been blessed with goals even in qualifying and their former number one choice Kostas Mitroglou is only on the bench after a disappointing spell with relegated English Premier League side Fulham.

His Fulham team-mate the 135-times capped Georgios Karagounis also fails to make the starting XI despite being the captain with Konstantinos Katsouranis skippering the team instead.

Veteran Georgios Samaras will provide a physical threat up front.
