New Delhi: The Delhi Police will soon have a dedicated four-digit helpline number to check incidents of pickpocketing, misbehaviour and molestation in the Delhi Metro. This move comes after plainclothes cops were deployed to meet passengers and hear their problems.Â
Metro also installed a public assistance booth at Chandni Chowk station on Wednesday.Â
“A four digit number—1511—was sanctioned as the new helpline. The number, to start within a week, will be operational 24X7 and the control room will be located at Shashtri Park Metro station,” said Mukesh Kumar Meena, joint commissioner, New Delhi range.Â
“It takes time for a commuter to report a crime committed inside a train since they have to travel to a Metro station with a Delhi Police post to report it. The helpline number will aid commuters register a complainant on the spot,” added an official. Police assistance booths will also be set up at Kirti Nagar, Inder Lok, Dilshad Garden, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat and Nehru Place stations.
