Ransomware Cyber attack takes over 150 countries; here’s how you can prevent it

Date:

Ransomware named ‘WannaCry‘ has taken over the European countries by storm. The outbreak started on Friday when NHS hospitals website was hacked creating a state of panic among the staff and the doctors of the hospitals.

The Ransomware attacks the computer and locks the user computer by WannaCrypt malware. Once the computer gets infected, the malware starts sharing the data and asks for money through bitcoins to restore all the encrypted data back to the computer and regain access.

The WannaCrypt version 1 was stoppable but version 2 is almost unbreakable and enters the windows by using the unsecured spaces of the software according to the tech experts.

WannaCrypt, Ransomeware

Despite such wide-scale attack, RansomWare has only managed to raise $20000, according to the reports. People are warned not to open a mail with attachment ‘tasksche.exe’.

Here are anti-ransonware measures:

  • Check regularly for the integrity of the information stored in the databases.
  • Regularly check the contents of backup files of databases for any unauthorised encrypted contents of data records.
  • Do not open attachments in unsolicited emails even if they come from people in your contact list.
  • Never click on a URL contained in an unsolicited email, even if the link seems benign.
  • Do not open any email which has attachments with “tasksche.exe” file.
