23 year old commits suicide leaving behind tapes, mimicking 13 reasons why

A 23 year man killed himself and left tapes behind leading explain to why he killed himself an act reminiscent of the famous Netflix series 13 Reasons why.

Franco Alonso Lazo Medrano reportedly jumped to his death from his fourth floor apartment after screaming, “I can’t stand a heartbreak,” according to reports.

Medrano’s mom witnessed his jump and he was later declared dead at the hospital, according to the news outlet.

Police reportedly found two suicide notes at Medrano’s home after his death and a goodbye letter to a woman named Claudia, wishing her the best, according to reports.

As police investigated, they also found another a note that included instructions with the names of people he wanted to receive tapes that he’d recorded on his computer before his suicide, according to Diario Clarín.

The tapes were allegedly left for those Medrano felt had caused him to take his own life. It is not clear whether Medrano had watched 13 Reasons Why, but his methods are similar to those of main character Hannah Baker in the series.
Baker recorded a series of 13 tapes before her suicide, addressed to 13 individuals she felt were responsible for her death.

The series, which came out in March and is based on a 2007 fiction novel by Jay Asher, was highly criticized because of its graphic depiction of suicide, the trivialization of the act, and failure to delve into the topic of mental illness, among other topics.

Everybody’s talking about the show and while some feel it is of concern that the series should carry additional advisories others might feel inspired to mimic the whole act. Netflix said in a statement. “Moving forward, we will add an additional viewer warning card before the first episode as an extra precaution for those about to start the series.”
