Underworld don Abu Salem and others accused found guilty in 1993 blasts case

A special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court found underworld don Abu Salem and his other connections: Firoz Khan, Abdul Rashid, Tahir Merchant, Karimullah Shaikh, Riyaz Ahmed Siddique and Mustafa Dossa guilty in the 1993 blasts case. Abu Salem has been convicted on charges of conspiracy and terror activities in the case.

However, the blasts victims demanded hanging punishment or life imprisonment for the accused. “Justice delayed is justice denied. We have suffered a lot till now. He ( Abu Salem) must be given hang punishment, or life imprisonment,” victim Kirti Ajmera said.

Salem has been named in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case and is an accused in a slew of cases related to murder and extortion. Salem is currently lodged in the Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai. In February 2015, Salem was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in 1995 in connection with the murder of Mumbai builder, Pradeep Jain.
