Snooping row: BJP protests outside Kejriwals residence

Date:

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday staged a outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence following reports of procuring snooping equipment.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay led the protest along with 1,000 party workers. Upadhyay accused the AAP of trying to break into people’s privacy. “We will protest against this move”, he said.

Protesters raised slogans against Kejriwal, demanding his clarification on the snooping equipment issue.

Delhi police used water canons on the protesters, few metres away from the CM’s residence in Civil lines area, to stop the protest. The news report claimed that the AAP government has readied a Cabinet note approving buying of snooping equipment for the ACB so that its officials could efficiently probe corruption cases.

However, the Delhi government has rejected the media report saying, “There is no proposal by the Delhi government to procure anything called as a snooping equipment and no such cabinet note has been circulated. The channel concerned running this wrong story made no attempt to contact the Delhi government for its version before airing it. The channel seems to have minted its own terminology to falsely show the Delhi government in poor light and defame the ACB.”
