Now an AR microscope that can detect cancer

Date:

Researchers at Google have developed a microscope, powered by deep learning and augmented reality, to help physicians diagnose cancer disease in patients. This prototype can analyze biological tissue samples to help detect cancer.

Google Brain — the company’s AI research division — has earlier used neural networks to detect breast cancer, with accuracy rates comparable to a trained pathologist. Google’s augmented reality microscope (ARM) combines compound light microscopes and AI blending the expertise of automated machine learning systems with human expertise.

Google notes that it is “bringing AI directly to the user” with a camera feeding the microscope’s view through algorithms. This will highlight possible tumors in a green outline to focus on and confirm.
