Andhra’s Summer of 2014

Date:

Hyderabad: Amid the scorching summer, it’s raining political parties in Andhra. The bifurcation of the state has sparked the emergence of new parties. As many as 13 parties – some even unheard of – are fighting the forthcoming elections.

Popular Tollywood actor Pawan Kalyan has launched Jana Sena, pitted against Congress in Seemandhra, led by Chiranjeevi. Kalyan said he will make sure Congress doesn’t win a single seat. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Jai Samakhya Andhra party has yet to make its impact.

The political situation in the state is different from that of other states because it is going to elect two Assemblies. It will be TRS vs Congress in Telangana, in the Seemandhra region, it will be a contest between TDP and YSR Congress.

Pawan’s support to either could play the spoilsport. His call for the rout of Congress (Congress ko hathao, Desh ko bachao) could make him a rallying point for all the anti-Congress, anti-bifurcation forces.

Congress is now an empty house in Seemandhra following the mass exodus of MPs, former ministers, MLAs. Most of them joined TDP, to protest against the bifurcation. Some powerful leaders like Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao (MP), former ministers J C Diwakar Reddy, D L Ravindra Reddy and the likes are reportedly ready to cross over to TDP.
