Kejriwal quits as Delhi CM eyes LS polls

Date:

New Delhi:Arvind Kejriwal resigned as Delhi’s Chief Minister on Friday on Valentine’s day as his love affair with the Congress ended as the party refused to support the introduction of his Jan Lok Pal bill dubbing it as unconstitutional. Announcing his resignation amid pouring rain to thousnds of supporter Kejriwal blamed the collusion of BJP and Congress that led to his resignation. Kejriwal was sworn in on December 28 and his minority government was supported by the Congress.

Earlier with Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung writing to Delhi Speaker M S Dhir that the Bill cannot be tabled for enactment in the Delhi Assembly as it doesn’t have his approval, there was not much option left for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal but to resign.
Defying the L-G and the Centre, Kejriwal could have gone ahead and introduced his pet Jan Lokpal Bill, provided BJP and Congress allowed him to do it. Pandemonium had earlier shifted from Parliament to Delhi Assembly, and AAP can do little, outnumbered and its attempt term unconstitutional.

This was a well calculated move by the Delhi CM to ensure that his support base increases in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections where he will go full throttle now in campaigning.
