FIFA WC 2018: England beat Colombia on penalties to reach quarterfinals

England beat Colombia on penalties to qualify for the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2018. They will face Sweden on Friday.

England were within touching distance of the quarter-finals when Colombia’s Yerry Mina hammered the ball in to the back of the net in stoppage time and both the countries reached 1-1 draw. Harry Kane scored the goal for England.

It forced the game into extra-time, which saw a lot of attacks and wayward shots but no goals.

It came down to penalties and England, who have a poor record with shootouts in major tournaments nailed their shots. What made the Three-Lions’ day was a save by keeper Jordan Pickford. England won the penalties 4-3.

It is the first time that England have ended up on the winning side after a World Cup knockout game has gone into penalties.
