Air India lends a helping hand for Kerala

The massive floods in Kerala has made life come to a standstill as there is no road connectivity, no phone connectivity, food, medicine and fuel shortage and railways, airport had been shut for days.

As the Kochi airport as been shut till August 26, the national carrier Air India has sought to help the flood victims to evacuate them from Kerala and bring then to a safe place.

Air India in its statement said, “As an exemplary initiative to fly out stranded people, AI’s subsidiary Alliance Air operated a non-commercial “proving flight” on an ATR (turboprop) to Kochi’s naval base with a team of DGCA, AAI and Flight Safety officials. Flight 9I 105 landed at Kochi at 1240 hrs from Bangalore and the return flt 9I106 took off from Kochi at 1345 hrs.”

“This whole exercise is aimed at confirming the feasibility of having Alliance Air operate more flights to Cochin’s defence airbase with turboprops to evacuate passengers,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile the pilots of Airbus 320 and Boeing 787 in Air India has said that they will fly to Kochi withouy payments to support the flood victims and to support Operation Madad, Operation Sahyog.

The state of Kerala has been hit by massive floods which has claimed 357 lives so far. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has released Rs 500 crore relief fund for the victims.
