This Twitter account of Navjot Singh Sidhu is not real!

Former Indian Cricketer and Congress minister Navjot Singh Sidhu have been in the limelight for a while now. Sindhu created controversy when he hugged Pakistan army chief during the sworn in ceremony of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Since then he has been targeted on social media.

Recently, a tweet by Shidhu went viral on social media. The tweet read –

“Today I have been invited by the Government of Pakistan On the occasion of opening the . I am grateful 2Prime Minister Imran khan & Army chief.All Sikh community is thankful 2Pakistan. Pakistan is my second home. And I’ll definitely come on this happy occasion”

Fact Check

The account that has been posting these tweets is not the official account of Navjot Singh Sidhu. His goes on Twitter with the username @sherryontopp and has a verified account. 

Whereas this account has been created in October 2018 but with just a couple of tweets have gained more than 8000 followers.

 

Though Sidhu will be attending the Kartarpur Corridor event on 28th, the claims and words in posted by @Navjot_S_Si are not his.

In the world where social media, especially Twitter is has become an important platform for information dissemination and consumption, it is of extreme importance that the receiver is cautious if a certain news is real or not.
