Sensex, Nifty end lower for the third straight day

The 30 share benchmark Sensex and the broader Nifty closed lower on Tuesday, falling for the third straight day. Sensex ended 64.20 points lower at 35,592.50 while Nifty finished at 10,652.20, down 9.35 points led by losses in energy, financial services and auto stocks.

Investors chose to maintain a cautious stance ahead of the interim budget on February 1. Crude oil prices rose after Washington imposed sanctions on Venezuelan state-owned oil firm PDVSA in a move that may curb the OPEC member’s crude exports. Intra-day international Brent crude oil futures were at $60.11 per barrel.

The long-awaited China-US trade deal were dealt another blow after Washington levelled sweeping criminal charges against China’s telecom giant Huawei. Officials of the two biggest economies of the world are scheduled to meet later in the week.
