Paralympian Devendra Jhajaria creates world record and clinches Gold at Rio

Celebration for India continues as Devendra Jhajharia won gold after bettering his own world record at Rio Paralympics 2016. He won the men’s javelin throw F46 event.

Presently holding world no 3 position, the 36-year-old Devendra has earlier won gold at the 2004 Athens Paralympics.
He improved on his earlier best of 62.15 metres achieved at Athens 2004, to 63.97 metres at the Olympic Stadium (Engenhao) in Rio on Tuesday. The Rajasthan born athlete, has an amputated left hand.

Devendra was awarded the Arjuna award in 2004 and the Padma Shri in 2012. He is the first Paralympian to receive the honour.
