Nawaz rakes up the K word, India responds

Date:

In his speech at the UN, Nawaz Sharif talked about several issues that would allow him to very carefully shift the focus of the discussion, so that he will be able to woo the international community.

He said that he “Fully supports Kashmiris right to self-determination.” He also spoke of “Indian brutalities” and “human rights violations by Indian forces” in the Kashmir valley, and that Pakistan has “kept track”.

Sharif said that Hizbul militant Burhan Wani had become “the symbol of the new Kashmiri intifada that was led by common Kashmiris”. Instead of talking about the issue at hand and allowing dialogue to take place, Mr. Sharif tried to squirrel out of anything substantial that needed to be said.

Giving it back to Pak, India responded with a strong rebuttal, “Pakistan is a terrorist state which channelises billions of dollars to training, financing , supporting terrorists.”

First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the UN Eenam Gambhir said “the worst violation of human rights is terrorism.” “When practised as an instrument of state policy it is a war crime. What my country and our other neighbours are facing today is Pakistan’s long-standing policy of sponsoring terrorism, the consequences of which have spread well beyond our region.”
