Did Deepika Padukone take a sly dig at Salman Khan?

Date:

It’s well-known that Deepika Padukone has been working to do away with the stigma attached to depression. She has been extremely vocal about her battle with depression and is working to create awareness about it through her organisation, The Live Love Laugh Foundation.

As depression is becoming increasingly common, the 32-year-old actress went public with her story, with an expectation that it will help do away with the stigma attached to normal illnesses in our society.

When Salman Khan called depression a “luxury’, the Padmaavat actress did not take it too kindly.

During an event, Salman had said, “I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can’t afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me.”

Deepika seemed to be taking a jibe at his comments at a recent event when she said, “Depression is sometimes perceived as luxury… (But) It is important to break that myth.”

The actress was talking about the perception that depression occurs in only successful people. “When we were talking about more celebrities coming out and speaking and when we were talking about stigma, there is a lot of miscommunication that depression happens to people who are successful. I want to clarify that it can happen to anybody from any field.”
