Shoe thrown at Chennai Super King player, IPL match delayed

Date:

Chennai, April 10: A shoe was reportedly thrown at Faf du Plessis at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday as Chennai Super Kings took on Kolkata Knight Riders by members of Three Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK).

As the protest raged outside stadium, the match was delayed by 13 mins. Three Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) workers were detained by the police for hurling shoes.

NTK, a Tamil nationalist party along with other protesters, is demanding a boycott of the IPL matches in Chennai until the Cauvery water issues is solved.

The political parties in the state have been protesting against the Centre’s negligence in the formation of Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

Earlier in the day IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla also met Union Home Secretary Rajeev Gauba and demanded enhanced security arrangements during the matches in Chennai.

It is to be noted that IPL has returned to Chepauk stadium after two years where the home franchise Chennai Super Kings are taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the fifth match of the 2018 fixture. (ANI)
