International flights from Chandigarh by mid-September

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) Chandigarh will get its firstinternational flight in mid-September as it will be connectedwith Sharjah and Dubai. The first international flight will be run by Air Indiato Sharjah on September 15 while Indigo will fly to Dubai onSeptember 26. Official sources said the Home Ministry will set up theimmigration counter by September 1 to facilitate theinternational travellers flying out of Chandigarh and for allin-bounds passengers. Chandigarh airport is expected to be the gateway for thetravellers from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and part ofJammu and Kashmir. With the operationalisation of international flights, thelong-standing demand of the Punjabi diaspora would befulfilled. At present international travellers have limited choiceof flights from Amritsar and they have to come to Delhi allthe way to catch flights connecting different parts of theworld. PTI ACB RAMRG
