Manipur observes World Earth Day

As observed worldwide, Manipur too observed the World Earth Day at the Manipur Film Development Society auditorium today, which is organised by the Department of Forests and Environment with the message to protect the environment.

Today’s observation is marked over the deliberation of speech by Expert G. Tomba Sharma, Rtd. Principal Dhanamanjuri College of Science and distribution of plant saplings to the students and civil organisations.

This year observation has given more thrust in tree plantation all around the state so that it can contribute to the control of the fast changing of climate.

The observation is being attended by many stakeholders, officials and students.

The observation function is being graced by Th. Shyamkumar Singh, Minister of Forest and Environment, Sushildro Singh, Parliamentary Secretary and Robindro Singh, parliamentary Secretary, G. Tomba Sharma, Rtd Principal, DM College of Science and M. Homeshwor Singh, Director, Department of Forests and Environment.

The Earth day is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The day was proposed at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and the first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970.
