Petrol supply to cripple fuel supply for 2 days

Date:

Petrol stations across Tripura will remain closed for two days on November 27 and 28 as the Petroleum Dealers Association has called a strike to protest against the Indian Oil Corporation’s indifferent attitude towards their long standing demands.

The demand include setting up of high standard testing centre’s at Dharmanagar, the entry point of petroleum products in Tripura and the main consuming centre – Agartala.

According to northeasttoday.com, Debasish Majumder, general secretary of the association, told in a press conference that setting up of high quality testing centre is essential to ensure standard of the product, absence of which often cause misunderstanding between the petroleum dealers and the consumers.

He also demanded for using quality locking system in the tankers carrying petroleum products from supply centre’s in Assam to Tripura to prevent pilferage as well as adulteration.

He said the association has been demanding this for more than 10 years and the State government also drew the attention of the IOC but was of no use forcing them to take such a strong decision.

“In January last the IOC in a meeting with the dealers association had assured o arrange security locking system in oil tankers within six months but nothing has happened so far,” he alleged adding that it is causing a huge loss to the dealers.
