The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has launched a new digital monitoring platform in New Delhi to strengthen surveillance of air pollution and improve enforcement across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
Named PAVAN (Platform for Air Quality Vigilance and Analytics for NCR), the Integrated Command and Control Centre (I3C) brings together real-time data from multiple agencies to identify pollution sources, track violations and coordinate corrective action.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav reviewed the platform on Friday and witnessed a live demonstration of its technological capabilities and operational readiness. This is the second such command centre in the capital, following the facility established by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
According to CAQM, PAVAN integrates more than 30 application programming interfaces (APIs) and data streams, covering air quality, industrial emissions, weather conditions, satellite inputs, surveillance cameras, traffic movement and public complaints.
The system also incorporates information from 111 continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations, 2,300 industries and 3,200 active construction sites, alongside traffic hotspot data.
The platform has 12 monitoring modules covering key pollution sources, including crop residue burning, construction and demolition activities, landfill management, vehicular emissions, brick kilns, industrial pollution and mechanical road sweeping.
It also uses continuous emission monitoring systems to identify industrial violations and generate alerts when emission levels deviate from prescribed parameters. Live camera feeds and particulate matter sensors help authorities monitor construction sites and landfill operations.
Yadav described the initiative as an important step towards strengthening pollution control, emphasising a system based on detecting violations, analysing data and ensuring timely action.
