From Golden Globe to Oscars recipient, this alumnus of Eton has dazzled critics and fans alike earning him a spot on Hollywood’s coveted A-list.

A remarkably versatile actor, his theatre work over the past decade propelled him to the big league.

The 30-year old boyishly handsome Brit has a legion of fanatical fans who dub themselves as ‘Redmayniacs’.
 

Born & raised

Edward John David “Eddie” Redmayne was born on January 6, 1982 and raised in London.   His parents are business owners. He has four siblings including an older half-brother and half-sister. Redmanye is red-green color-blind.

He was educated at Eton College where Prince William was his classmate. Then he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied History of Art. Encouraged by his parents, Redmayne took drama lessons from a young age.

His first stage appearance was in the musical ‘Oliver!’ where he played a workhouse boy.

Acting continued through school and university, including performing with the National Youth Music Theatre.
 

The Actor

Redmayne’s first professional stage performance came in 2002 at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre where he played Viola in Twelfth Night.

He has also appeared in ‘Now or Later’ and ‘Red at the Donmar Warehouse.’

In 2008, he appeared in BBC miniseries ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’, as well as ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ in 2010 and 2012’s ‘Birdsong’.

He made his film debut in the psychological thriller ‘Like Minds’ in 2006 and then went to appear in ‘The Good Shepherd’ in the same year.

In 2008, he appeared in ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ and Sundance drama film ‘The Yellow Handkerchief’.

He starred as filmmaker Colin Clark in the drama film ‘My Week with Marilyn’. He took on the role of Marius Pontmercy for the 2012 musical film ‘Les Misérables’.

In 2014, he starred as Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything’.
 

The Model

Redmayne modelled for Burberry menswear in 2008 and 2012.

In the September 2012 issue of Vanity Fair, he was featured on its annual International Best Dressed List.
 

The Honors

He was named Outstanding Newcomer at the London Evening Standard Awards 2004 and the London Critic’s Circle Theatre Awards 2005 for his performance in “The Goat or Who is Sylvia” at the Almeida Theatre, Islington.

Won the Tony Award in 2010 as Actor for his performance in “Red”

Golden Globe Award in 2014 as Actor for his performance in “The Theory of Everything”

Oscar in 2015 for portrayal of Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”
