Tonk Police Arrest Man In Social Media Investment Scam Involving Over Rs 1 Lakh

Date:

Tonk: Police in Rajasthan’s Tonk district have arrested a man accused of cheating people through fraudulent social media investment schemes, with two complaints reporting losses exceeding Rs 1 lakh.

The arrest was made by the Nagarfort police under the state police’s ongoing ‘Operation Cyber War’ campaign, aimed at identifying and taking action against cybercriminals. Tonk Superintendent of Police Roshan Meena confirmed the development.

The accused, identified as Dilkhush Meena, allegedly used social media platforms to approach potential victims with promises of unusually high returns on investments. Investigators suspect that he lured people into transferring money by presenting the schemes as lucrative investment opportunities.

According to information shared by the police, two complaints against the accused were registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). The combined amount involved in these reported cases was found to be more than Rs 1 lakh.

During the operation, police also recovered a substantial collection of financial documents and electronic equipment from the accused. The seized items included 18 cheque books belonging to different banks, 25 bank passbooks, ATM cards linked to 17 banks, three mobile phones and a Jio Wi-Fi device.

The recovery of multiple banking instruments is expected to form part of the investigation into the alleged financial transactions and the accused’s suspected involvement in cyber fraud.

Tonk Police said action against cybercriminals is continuing under Operation Cyber War. The investigation is expected to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify whether more victims were targeted through the social media investment scheme.
