‘Avengers: Endgame’ smashes box office records, becomes India’s highest opener

‘Avengers: Endgame’, which is the final installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has smashed all records at the box office making it the highest opener in India, earning 53 crores at the box office on the first day.

Film critic Taran Adarsh posted a series of tweets and wrote, “Avengers: Endgame emerges as a game changer… Sets new benchmarks on Day 1… An eye opener for the industry that feels national holidays/festivals yield best results at the BO… Fri Rs 53.10 cr Nett BOC. India biz. Gross BOC: Rs 63.21 cr. NON-HOLIDAY RELEASE.”

The stats clearly show that ‘Endgame’ was the highest opener of 2019, of any Hollywood film in India, making Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ stand on the second place, which opened with 52 crores on the first day.

Avengers: Endgame beats the record of its second last film ‘Avengers Infinity War’ in the MCU which opened with Rs 31 crores at the Indian box-office. It is interesting to note that the predecessor of ‘Endgame’ opened with 2000 screens while ‘Endgame’ opened with 2845 screens.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ was released on April 26 and marks as the final film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s current generation, which comprises of 22 films, including ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and the recently released ‘Captain Marvel’.

It will also be the last Marvel movie for some of the key actors, including Chris Evans as Captain America.
