The real story of Geeta Phogat’s life and career is far more inspiring than Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’. Meanwhile, the movie has managed to garner some really amazing responses from the masses and the critics.
While you enjoyed every bit of the movie and performances by on-screen Geeta, Babita and Mahavir Singh Phogat, there are few facts that differ from real-life Geeta Phogat.
Well, Geeta did win the match as did Fatima Sana Shaikh (who portrays Geeta) in Dangal but with one big difference in film’s story. Even an Aamir Khan film went wrong in portraying an important detail of Geeta Phogat’s all-important Commonwealth Games match.
Going by the above video, one can see that scores of the real match played by Geeta Phogat. The Australian opponent, Emily Bensted, was not even the strong opponent the final match in the movie claimed her to be. Geeta Phogat was easily able to overcome her in the real match.

Geeta Phogat won the match in just two rounds, unlike the one shown in the movie that went on to three rounds.
Geeta Phogat has comparatively long hair in the real match, while her reel counterpart had a brutally short hairstyle.
While it is okay to add masala to real life stories to make it more interesting to the audience, after all we are making movies not documentaries, changing matches like the above to the point of making it unrecognisable is not warranted.
