New Guidelines For Child Actors In Entertainment Industry

Date:

New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will be issuing fresh guidelines soon to protect child actors.

According to reports, changes were been made to guidelines after the agency received complaints from parents of child actors.

The new draft called “Regulatory Guidelines for Child Participation in Entertainment Industry” will apply to films, OTT, reality shows and TV.

According to the ETimes report, many things were gone through changes.
The drafted guidelines have been sent to the agency and new guidelines are likely to be made official in public on July 31.

Over the issue, as stated by ETimes, Chairperson of NCPCR Priyanka Kanoongo said, “We have received a lot of complaints regarding the portrayal of kids, but who will complain about the working hours of these kids? We need to address the working hours and working conditions of showbiz minors. Hence, we need strict implications of these guidelines.”
Here are some of the points from the drafted guidelines:

A child artiste should be under the supervision of parents or guardians during shift.

Everyone involved with the child actor must present a medical fitness certificate for the safety of the child.

The actors should be called for one shift per day with a maximum of 6 working hours and having proper rest and break after every 3 hours in between.

The participation of children in recorded programmes must be done on holidays.

Also, child actors cannot exceed working for 27 consecutive days in a year.
