Rs 52 cr and counting; ‘IForIndia’ becomes world’s biggest live COVID-19 fundraiser on FB!

The I For India concert, which was organised to raise money to help fight the novel coronavirus, has collected Rs 52 crore till date. The virtual concert, which was an initiative of director-producers Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar, saw participation of many Bollywood and international celebrities.

In a special message for fans for their support, Karan tweeted, “iForIndia becomes world’s biggest live fundraiser on Facebook by raising 4.3 crore online (and counting). Corporate donors and philanthropists donate Rs 47.77 crore (and counting). I for India continues to get overwhelming attention and support from the world over. 100% of proceeds go to GiveIndia for COVID-19 relief work.”

“From our hearts to yours. Thank you for watching. Thank you for responding. Thank you for donating. #IForIndia started out as a concert. But it can be a movement. Let’s continue to build a safe, healthy & strong India. I For India. Please donate,” Karan added.

Zoya Akhtar also issued a heartfelt message of thanks. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared another message from Karan and Zoya.

Akshay Kumar wrote, “From our hearts to yours. Thank you for watching. Thank you for responding. Thank you for donating. I for India started out as a concert. But it can be a movement. Let’s continue to build a safe India. A healthy India. A strong India. I for India. Please continue to donate. (sic).”

Katrina Kaif, Madhuri Dixit and Sidharth Malhotra also thanked fans for their donations and urged others to keep on contributing.

I For India has turned out to be Bollywood’s biggest fundraiser concert. It streamed live on Facebook on Sunday.

The concert featured some of the biggest names of Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shabana Azmi and Ranveer Singh.

International celebrities who participated in the concert included Mick Jagger, The Jonas Brothers, Sophie Turner, Will Smith, Bryan Adams and more.
