26 teachers conferred with Governor’s Award in U’khand

Dehradun, Sep 5 (PTI) Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul todayawarded 26 outstanding school teachers of the state with theGovernor’s Award saying that by shaping the future of childrenthey play an important role in nation building. Highlighting the important role played by teachers inshaping the future of children, he said it has become moresignificant today with most children having working parentswho have little time to interact with them. "These days when parents are mostly working and childrenget less time to interact with them, teachers have assumed arole perhaps even more important than parents. They mustcreate an atmosphere in their schools where children canimbibe Indian values and culture to keep our heritage alive. "Education without values has no meaning. A person shouldnot be merely a good student. He should be a good human beingand a good citizen. In this era, when nuclear families are therule, children sometimes have no way of linking themselves totheir roots and cultural heritage. "Here, teachers can step in to impart these values andtraditions to the youngsters," Paul said in the presence ofChief Minister Harish Rawat and School Education MinisterMantri Prasad Naithani. Greeting the teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day andGanesh Chaturthi, he said this was an occasion for thankingall the teachers of the country whose consistent efforts haveplaced India on the path of progress. He said holding teachers/gurus in the highest regard wasan ancient Indian tradition which should be maintained. Paul also asked teachers to keep upgrading theirknowledge and skills to keep themselves abreast with thechanging times. Teachers must know that technology will help them teachand help their students learn. Teachers can incorporatetechnology directly into their practice at the classroomlevel, he said. Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who was the special guest onthe occasion, said teachers were making great contribution tothe development of the state by spreading the light ofknowledge. Congratulating teachers conferred with the Governor’saward, Rawat said he was happy to see that most of theawardees were women and teachers from schools in remote areas. Naithani said India would require important contributionfrom teachers if it wanted to regain the glory of beingVishwaguru. PTI ALM IKA ZMNIKA
