Nobody has the right to call India intolerant: Kher at “March for India”

Veteran Bollywood Actor Anupam Kher led the “March for India” to Rashtrapati Bhavan to protest against the voices being raised over “intolerance” in the country.The actor started his march from Delhi museum and reached the President House to submit his memorandum.

The actor claimed that the intolerance debate is an attempt to malign the image of the country and is intended to target the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

After meeting the President, Kher said, “The President has said that our constitution is written on a secular fabric & we should respect that.”

The actor also said in the statement that Prime Minister Modi will be meeting the “March for India” delegation at 6:30 pm on Saturday.

Kher led protest march against the ‘Award Wapsi’ trend as many filmmakers, artists and even actors have returned their awards to protest against the ‘growing intolerance’ in the country.

Prominent personalities joined Kher’s march includeing senior journalist Kanchan Gupta, and academic Madhu Kishwar.

The march called the ‘March For India’, was joined by artists, writers, painters, who feel that an atmosphere is being created in the country to project that India has become intolerant.

The march started from National Museum, Janpath, and concluded at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. So far, celebrities like actors Anil Kapoor, Kamal Haasan, Vidya Balan have questioned those who returned their awards.

Kher told the media today, “Every country goes through problems but nobody has the right to call our country intolerant.”

“We are secular people, we don’t believe in pseudo-secularism or selective outrage. Our message to the President is that India is a very tolerant country,” he added.
