Union Home Minister Amit Shah cancels two day visit to West Bengal which was scheduled for this weekend.
More deflections from the ruling Trinamool Congress(TMC) in West Bengal were expected over the weekend as Union Home Minister Amit Shah was to reach Kolkata on Friday night for a two day visit where he will address two rallies apart from other programmes in the state. While the visit has been cancelled, the speculations over deflections continue to keep the suspense over whose next from the TMC camp.
Amongst those expected to join the BJP are Rajib Banerjee who resigned as cabinet minister and TMC MLA, TMC MLA Baishali Dalmiya and Uttarpara MLA Prabir Ghoshal. On December 19th former minister in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet and her close aide Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP during Shah’s rally in Mednipur. There are expected to be surprises during this Bengal visit of Shah too.

Shah was expected to visit ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness) in Mayapur and later a rally at Thakurnagar. In the evening the Union Home Minister was to address social media volunteers in Kolkata.
On Sunday Shah was scheduled to have lunch at a jute mill worker’s house in Belur apart from visiting Aurobindo Bhawan to pay his respects to Sri Aurobindo before heading to Bharat Sevashram Sangha. From there, Shah was to proceed to Howrah where he will address a public meeting.
While TMC is holding onto it’s bastion, top BJP leaders are making their presence felt in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections in a bid to capture voter’s confidence and end the 10 year rule of the ruling party. Shah’s visit might have been postponed for now, but his frequent visits to the state continue to raise speculations over his the BJP’s next move on Mamata’s turf.
