Centre Revises One Rank One Pension Scheme To Benefit Over 25 Lakh Armed Forces Veterans

Date:

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved revision of the One Rank One Pension scheme for defence personnel and family pensioners, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said.

The estimated annual expenditure for the implementation of the revision has been calculated at around Rs 8,450 crore at 31 per cent dearness relief (DR).

The cabinet meeting was chaired by PM Modi.

The benefit would also be extended to family pensioners including war widows and disabled pensioners, Thakur said.

The arrears from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022, will be given and the revision will benefit approximately 25.13 lakh Armed Forces pensioners.

Armed Forces Personnel who retired before June 30, 2019, will be covered under this revision, Union minister Anurag Thakur announced.

The move is expected to attract youth to join the armed forces.

OROP was a long-standing demand of the armed forces and implies that retired soldiers of the same rank, who have retired after serving for the same length of service, will receive the same pension, irrespective of the date and year of their retirement.

Here is the revised OROP.
