As the number of COVID-19 cases climbs up towards the 8 million mark with over 7.5 million confirmed cases already, India has now made it to the list of worst-affected countries and secured the fourth position.
On Thursday, India saw the highest single-day spike of 10,956 cases and 396 deaths. Situation in Maharashtra is currently the worst with around 97,000 cases with Tamil Nadu and Delhi not trailing far behind.
According to the Health Ministry, India’s recovery rate stood at 49.47 per cent on Friday morning as 1,47,195 people have recovered.
The situation across the globe has also worsened as the US reported over 900 deaths in the last 24 hours. Brazil overtook United States in COVID related fatalities with 1,239 deaths.

Amongst the top 10 countries affected due to COVID, Germany and Italy have the maximum recovery rate. On Thursday, 555 fresh cases were reported in Germany while Italy reported 202 new cases.
The World Health Organisation has warned that the pandemic in Africa is “accelerating” and community transmission has begun in more than half of Africa’s 54 countries.
