COVID-19: ‘PM Cares’ Fund will accept contributions from abroad

The newly set-up “Prime Minister Cares” Fund established to raise funds to battle Covid-19 will accept foreign donations to battle the virus.

“In view of the interest expressed to contribute to Government’s efforts, as well as keeping in mind the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, contributions to the Trust can be done by individuals and organisations, both in India and abroad,” sources said.

“PM-CARES”–a public charitable trust was setup in view of several spontaneous requests from India and abroad for making generous contribution to support the Government in its fight against Covid-19.

This is a shift from India’s position in the past where the country decline financial help from abroad to deal with crisis situations. The unprecedented situation caused due to the ongoing crisis over the spread of the Coronavirus has caused the shift in policy.

The Government hopes to raise and use these funds to fight the deadly virus and tackle the economic & social fallout of the crisis.

Many Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin and foreign nationals had expressed their interest to contribute to this fund, owing to their strong connections with their motherland.

The fund will now accept funds from both foreign individuals as well as organizations.
