EC Serves Notice To Arvind Kejriwal, Priyanka Gandhi Over Remarks On PM Modi

Date:

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) served a notice to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, in response to a complaint filed by the BJP. The complaint alleges that two tweets from the official AAP handle depicted Prime Minister Modi in a manner deemed disparaging, insulting, and defamatory.

The Election Commission has asserted that certain statements appear to breach the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and electoral laws. A deadline until November 16 has been set for an explanation regarding these statements, with a clear indication that actions for MCC violations and electoral law breaches may be considered if satisfactory justifications are not provided.

“the posts prima facie violate MCC (Model Code of Conduct) as well as provisions of election and penal laws; asks him to explain the statement by 16th Nov, as to why appropriate action for violation of MCC as well as provisions of election and penal laws should not be taken against you,” EC said.

Additionally, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi also received a notice from the Election Commission for a suspected violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The notice pertains to her speech in Madhya Pradesh, where she questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the alleged sale of BHEL to his “big industrialist friends.” The Election Commission is set to investigate the matter further.
