India To Showcase Tejas At Singapore Air Show, Three More Rafale Fighters To Arrive Soon

Date:

New Delhi: India is all set to showcase Tejas Mk-1 fighter jets at the Singapore Air Show which opens on February 15.

Eyeing the export prospects of the indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, India’s decision to send Tejas in the air show in Singapore gains significance.

According to the Indian Air Force (IAF), three Tejas Mk-1 jets will take part in the air show from February 15 to 18. A 44-member IAF contingent has already reached Changi International Airport in Singapore to take part in the biennial event.

“IAF will be pitching the indigenous Tejas MK-I aircraft alongside participants from across the world. The Tejas aircraft will be enthralling the audience with its low-level aerobatics and displaying its superior handling characteristics and manoeuvrability,” according to a statement by the IAF.

In the recent past, Tejas has taken part in the Malaysia, Dubai and Bahrain air shows. The move to send Tejas to Singapore Air Show also comes close on the heels of India securing a $375 million deal for supplying three batteries of BarhMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines.

Apart from LCA Tejas and BrahMos, India is also keen to export several missile systems, tanks, and radars.

In another significant development involving the IAF, the last batch of three Rafale fighter jets are scheduled to arrive in India within a week. India has already got the delivery of 33 Rafale multi-role modern French fighter jets as part of the deal to purchase 36 Rafale jets from France. The 7.87 billion Euro inter-governmental agreement was inked in September 2016 for getting the fighter jets in fly-away condition.
