Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday hit out at the BJP over an alleged attack on the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata’s Kalighat.
Challenging the BJP over the alleged use of bulldozers, she said, “How many bulldozers do you have? Come, I am standing right in front of you. Run the bulldozers over my body, my chest.”
The remarks came after Abhishek alleged that BJP-backed supporters attacked his residence around 2 am following clashes between two groups.
He described the incident as life-threatening and claimed it was the seventh attempt on his life in six months. He also alleged that there had been no police action or judicial intervention.
Mamata also accused authorities of disrupting traditional Kali Puja celebrations in the locality by revoking permissions for long-standing pujas while allowing a newly organised puja on the main road.
She claimed the new arrangement blocked access to the traditional celebration and questioned why local clubs were prevented from carrying out their activities.
The clashes reportedly took place between 2 am and 3:30 am on Saturday. TMC supporters alleged that BJP workers attacked them while they were preparing for Abhishek’s 39th birthday on November 7.
BJP supporters, meanwhile, claimed they were attacked while going to buy Kali idols. Abhishek alleged that eight people were injured, including three seriously, and accused BJP workers of targeting his residence and office.
